On May 30, 2022 (Memorial Day), we lost our beloved Jerry Allen Ostler. Jerry leaves behind his wife of 58 yrs. Nancy (Birkeland), sons:Jonathan and Nathan, daughters: Julie Hess and Joy Finchum, Grandchildren: Danial Ostler,Chelsea Hess and Trevor and Tyler Finchum.
In 1958 , 18 year old Jerry joined the United States Navy where he was assigned to the USS Indianapolis AirCraft Carrier. On board ship, Jerry acted as Aviation Fire Control, Electronics Technician Class E5, Fire Control Radar and Missile Guidance Systems.
In 1959, 19 year old Jerry was awarded the FIRST GOOD CONDUCT AWARD for saving an aircraft during very high winds, from going overboard.
After serving our country for 4 ½ years in the Navy, Jerry attended Golden University in CA, where he acquired a BA of Arts in Business Management. While also at this time serving as Bishop for the Latter Day Saints, Balboa Ward in San Francisco CA.
Jerry then took his BA to Pacific Bell for the next 20 years, where he retired.
Being interested in the new "Tech" world, Jerry taught himself to be a computer programmer. He then taught computer applications at Front Range Community College in Ft. Collins Colorado.
Jerry was an avid softball player, playing Fast Pitch Softball as pitcher for his team. He also enjoyed backpacking with his sons as often as he could. He took his whole family camping often.
While being able to "contract" out his computer expertise, Jerry and Nancy purchased an RV and traveled the country working in different states and site seeing all over the United States.
Our Father/Brother/Husband and friend and TRUE PATRIOT, will be missed, but we know he has gone to a better place.
Jerry's Funeral will be: Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11am at Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East Springville City Utah
