Jeanette Groves 91, of Fort Collins, Colorado, left her family peacefully on November 11, 2011 at Lakeview Commons Assisted Living in Loveland, Colorado. Jeanette was born in Mooresville, Indiana, and graduated from Mooresville High School in 1938. She was Executive Secretary to the President of American United Life Insurance Company in Indianapolis. During World War II she worked for the Curtiss Wright airplane industry and she was very active in the USO. Jeanette married Jim Groves in Mooresville, Indiana on March 27, 1948. Jeanette and Jim enjoyed 59 years of marriage during which they shared a love of big band music and swing dancing. After thirty years living in Barrington, Illinois, they retired to Seneca, South Carolina for 10 years where Jeanette pursued her passion for bridge. Later, they moved to Fort Collins where Jeanette and Jim were active bridge players at Fort Collin's Senior Center. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband James H Groves, parents Mabel and Ezra Fleener and her brother Ezra Fleener Junior. Jeanette is survived by her brother, Duane S. Fleener of Avon, Indiana, son Jeff Groves of Eaton, Colorado, and daughter Jan Michael of Coldwater, Michigan. Jeanette loved her four grandchildren, who are: Kerry Merkel of Longmont, Colorado, Drew Michael of St Louis, Missouri, Kelly Merkel of Lafayette, Colorado, and Brian Michael of Boulder, Colorado. Jeanette was thrilled to be great grandmother to Darby Merkel, daughter of Kerry and Tim Merkel. She loved to share Darby's baby pictures and videos with her friends. Jeanette was an excellent homemaker and cook. She took great pride in her home and family. Jeanette was very proud of Jeff's law enforcement career. Jeanette loved to shop with her daughter Jan. A skillful knitter, Jeanette made many special keepsakes for her family. At Lakeview Commons, Jeanette enjoyed many activities with her friends. She regularly played cards, especially bridge. She participated in daily exercise, Bingo and crosswords. Our family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Jeanette will be laid to rest with her husband, Jim, in Mooresville, Indiana.
