Jean Elizabeth Snyder, 84, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on April 28, 2010 at her home in Collinwood Assisted Living. Jeanie was born October 10, 1925 in Takoma Park, Maryland to Delbert Douglas and Florence Sterritt Graham. After graduating from college, Jean moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to work as Director of Religious Education at the First Christian Church. In Lincoln, she met Gene H Snyder through a mutual friend and a mutual love of square dancing. They married on December 22, 1950 and had four children: Becky, James, Tom and Martha. Gene was a customer service agent for United Air Lines. In 1970 he was transferred to a station in Southern California. Jean taught elementary school for nine years in Lincoln and 17 years in the Upland CA Unified School District. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, NEA, Early Childhood Assn, Lincoln Teacher's Assn, and Upland Teacher's Assn. Jeanie took early retirement in 1984 but taught part time until 1987. After retiring, Gene and Jeanie – who liked to refer to themselves as "A retired pair of GJeans" – enjoyed many trips in their RV and abroad. Jeanie founded the Mellowdears glee club, organized the Square Dance and Bridge Clubs of Rancho Ontario Mobile Home Park and was an officer in the Homeowners Association. Two years after Gene passed away in 2005 Jeanie moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to be near her daughter, Martha and her family, where singing with the Senior Harmonettes was her great delight. She knew every word to every song – by heart. Jeanie is survived by her children, Becky Dale Bush of Normal, Illinois, Tom Rustee Snyder of Victorville, California, and Martha Peter Notess of Fort Collins; her six grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Peggy Graham of Palm Coast, Florida; her brother-in-law, Jim Morris of Sarasota, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, James; her husband, Gene; her brothers, Doug and Don Graham; and her sister, Ruth Aubert Morris. The family would like to thank Collinwood Assisted Living, Pathways Hospice, and Joy Medical Services for their gentle, loving care. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 3920.S. Shields St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice or Easter Seals Nebraska in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
