Janie Lou Bondhus

Janie Bondhus, née Black, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of memories shared with those who knew and loved her. She was born on September 18, 1949.

Janie dedicated her professional life to nursing, working as a registered nurse throughout her career in long-term nursing facilities as well as in-home care for seniors. Nursing was an important part of who she was, and she spent decades caring for others.

The highlight of Janie's life was marrying the love of her life, Thomas Bondhus. Together they built a life that included many happy moments and adventures with their beloved Pomeranian, Trinket. Although she wished she had traveled more, she always enjoyed the opportunities she had to explore new places. A trip to Ocracoke Island, North Carolina in 1997, sparked a love of lighthouses and inspired a treasured collection. She also enjoyed collecting frogs, music boxes, and shot glasses.

Janie was a lifelong learner who enjoyed trying new things. Over the years she took photography and candy-making classes, spent time crocheting, and enjoyed gathering with friends to play Bunco.

She was the proud mother of five children, including two sons who served in the military, Marine and Army respectively. She was preceded in death by her son, Benjamin Montez.

Janie is survived by her children: Scott Jones and his wife, Megan, and their sons, Bryce and Brinton; Eric Jones and his wife, Anna, and their sons, Rick and Charlie; Kelly Kessman and her husband, Jeffrey, and their son, Vance; and her youngest daughter, Karey White-Montez and her wife, Melissa White-Montez.

She also leaves behind her sisters, Bonnie, Betsy, Robin, and June, along with many extended family members.

Janie was a proud grandmother and shared an especially close relationship with her grandson, Charlie Jones, who held a special place in her heart.

She will be remembered for her curiosity, her love of collecting meaningful keepsakes, her appreciation for learning, and the memories she created with family and friends throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her.

Private family services will be held in September.
