During that time, Jan was very active in church leadership, music, and Bluebirds. Jan was an unsung hero. She said "yes" to her kids, their friends. There are champions of the faith that were nurtured and fed cookies, pizza and root beer at her table. Worship leaders who played music in her living room afternoon hour after hour. She was generous, and often found at 1 am working at her sewing machine or ironing board in order to keep the family held together.
After Jan and Virgil "retired", they became prominent growers in Northern Colorado and were active members in the Farmers Market community. Jan spent long days working beside Virgil and became famous for; pumpkin rides for the local kindergartens, making strawflower arrangements and fall decorations for Farmers Markets in Fort Collins and Estes Park. Through their vegetable stand and attending markets, they made many good friends. Jan was also active for years in Bible Study Fellowship, church leadership and music.

She also maintained a close relationship with her mother, Evelyn, who was always included in family events, gluing the generations together and providing memories of for the entire family.
Jan was an anchor at the "Timber Lane" home that was open to everyone for 35 years where they often held yard sales and were known around the city for their annual Mother's Day plant sale and decorative garlic braids.
Jan was eternally committed to Virgil. Found in her bible this past week was part of a page from a Focus on the Family magazine. It read: Thank you, Lord, for this unique man—quiet, patient, dependable. Most of all, thank you for letting me see in him a small reflection of the sustaining, unconditional, protective love You have for both of us. (And this part was circled); Thank you, Lord, for helping me to appreciate him just the way he is.
As a result of their second retirement, they moved to be closer to family in Fort Collins in 2010. They continued their connections with church friends, the farming community…and the Colorado Rockies.
Jan's inner strength was a true inspiration to us all. Although her body suffered a number of physical challenges over the years, her attitude and spirit never wavered. Her huge heart for her family and sense of humor continued through it all and will forever be a part of our memories.
