Listen to Obituary
Janet Jean (Ahlbrandt) Haferman, 77, native and lifelong resident of Fort Collins passed away peacefully July 16, 2016 surrounded by family.

Born October 28, 1938 she was the oldest child of Charles and Martha Ahlbrandt.
She was interested in music at a very young age and she began studying piano at the age of eight.
Her talent was recognized early when she was inducted into Pi MU, the national music society, at the age of 10. It was then that she began playing for Sunday School at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, later to become Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. By the time she was 16 she was the full-time organist there and continued faithfully for the next 51 years. Janet graduated from Fort Collins High School, and received her Associate's Degree at the St. Louis Institute of Music. She served a term as president of the local organist guild and was instrumental in helping start the Laudamus Chamber Chorale. Even after her official retirement she continued playing for weddings, funerals and other services.

She married Leonard Haferman on June 17, 1956. They have three children, Valerie Connor (Scott), Jon Haferman (Debbie), and Dan Haferman (Kelly); five grandchildren, Sethry Connor (Christine), Alyssa Hupp (Isaiah), Andrew Connor (Courtney), Jason Haferman (Audrey) Ryan Haferman; and six great grandchildren and have enjoyed them all living close by. Her brother, Chuck Ahlbrandt (Kathy) and their family also live in Fort Collins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pamela.

She was active in Chapter G of PEO, Ladies Circle, Bible study and loved spending time with her family and friends. Janet and Leonard enjoyed traveling in the states and abroad over the years including trips to Mexico, Hawaii, and Europe. Leonard and Janet recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Her diagnosis of liver cancer in 2014 didn't deter her from doing the things she loved until the final weeks of her life. Janet will be missed by her loved ones but they know she was welcomed into eternity with the words, "well done my good and faithful servant".

Viewing will be Sunday, July 24, 2016 from Noon to 4 p.m. and Monday, July 25, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive Street, Fort Collins.
