Jane Holmes Willhour passed away on August 14, 2024 surrounded by her family. Despite having Alzheimer's for many years, Jane lived a joyful and fulfilling 88 years until an unexpected fall broke her hip. Jane was born November 8, 1935 to Fred T. Holmes and Amy Hale Holmes and grew up playing with her four cousins at Red Hills Farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. She attended South High School in Denver, then graduated from CU Boulder with a BA in Geology where she met the love of her life, Bob Willhour, and married in 1959.
The two built a wonderful life full of travel and deep friendships. Together they raised two kids, making their home wherever Bob's Petroleum Geology career brought them - hiking, camping, skiing, snow shoeing, road trips, international trips... and singing along the way! Later, their lives also centered around their grandkids, moving to Fort Collins in 2001. They made countless friends through Heart of the Rockies Christian Church, volunteering, and traveling with Friendship Force. They were givers, always enriching the lives of others around them.
Jane's smile was infectious, bringing joy to everyone who knew her. After 64 years of marriage, her beloved husband Bob died last November. Jane loved her family!! She is survived by her son Jim Willhour and daughter Alice Austin, both of Fort Collins and her grandchildren: Amy Austin of Fort Collins and Tyler Austin of Niwot and her cousins: Pryor Hale of Charlottesville, VA, Fred Hale and Jeff Hale, both of Winter Park, FL.
A memorial service, in celebration of her life, will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Heart of the Rockies Christian Church (6501 Brittany Street, Fort Collins, CO 80525) followed by a light lunch. ALL are welcome. A family burial service will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
