December 8, 1936 — February 2, 2026

Listen to Obituary
Jan Day Iodence, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at the age of 89.

Jan was born on December 8, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, to Frederick and Josephine Oehlmann. She grew up in the Park Hill neighborhood alongside her older sister, Gretchan, and attended East High School. After graduating, Jan went on to attend Colorado State University, where she met her future husband, William (Bill) Day, a member of the CSU football team who came from a family farm northeast of Fort Collins.

Jan and Bill married and raised three children—Kelly, Steve, and James—while living on the Day family farm. Together they raised sheep, built lasting partnerships, and invested in local real estate. Life on the farm was lively; her children were spirited and adventurous, and Jan herself embraced that same spirited joy for life.

After Bill Day's passing, Jan found love again with Bill Iodence. They married and moved to a cattle ranch in western Nebraska where they led a life rooted in hard work, community, and adventure. They rode horses, went to rodeos, bull sales and brandings. They spent winters in Mexico golfing and fishing for dorado, enjoying dinners with friends, combing the beach for shells and swimming in the ocean.

Jan will be most remembered for bringing people together and making them feel welcome and loved. Her door was always open to anyone needing a good conversation, a joke, a cocktail, and/or cookie. If you ever visited her home, you were guaranteed to leave full and happy. This warmth and generosity were reflected in a life of strong partnerships and countless cherished friendships.

Jan had a gift for squeezing the sweetest juice out of life. In addition to golfing, skiing and, painting she relished in traveling to new and familiar places. She journeyed to Iceland, Ecuador, Peru, and even went on an African safari at the age of 80, including the close contact with a family of friendly gorillas. For over 30 years she spent winters in Manzanillo, Mexico where she loved swimming in the bay, walking the beach, and watching the pelicans glide overhead.

But above all, Jan loved people. She cherished long walks filled with conversation, good meals shared with family and friends, and the companionship of her beloved dogs. Even through profound loss and grief, she remained a beacon of light and joy, never stopping her search for happiness or her desire to share it with others.

Jan was the proud grandmother of Josie, Adam, Henry, Daniel, David, and Jessica. She was also the proud great-grandmother to Luke, Calvin, Gwyneth, Emilio, and Ethan.

Jan Day Iodence remained witty, feisty, and absolutely and remarkably sassy to the very end.
She will be remembered for her fearless spirit, open heart, and the joy she brought into every room she entered.
