Listen to Obituary
James Robert Weitz passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at his home in Fort Collins. He was 82.

Born in Los Angeles, Jim spent time in the US Coast Guard and a few years spinning records in Hawaii, and eventually moved with his wife, Margie, and their four children to Fort Collins in 1968. Jim enjoyed a long career with the Larimer County Assessor's office.

An avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, Jim was also well known as a supporter and participant in the Fort Collins theater community. One of the original backstage "techies" at the Lincoln Center main stage, he was a fixture behind the scenes there for more than twenty years. Jim also was among the early pioneers of the theatre scene in town, appearing in productions with Helen Mary Green Theater, Probe Theatre, Foothills Civic and Openstage. He was particularly proud of his performance of Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey.

Jim was a cancer survivor of more than ten years and an active organizer of the annual Relay for Life.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margie; three sons: Greg, Chris and Dan; and a daughter, Susan Dangerfield. He was the proud grandparent of 8.

A man of many aphorisms, one of Jim's favorites was "Time is the Enemy of Man." He was correct.
