Jim was born in Fort Collins, Colorado February 7, 1942 to Emma (Kurtz) Specht and Adam Specht. Jim attended Fort Collins High School and graduated 1960. He was offered wrestling scholarships to two universities.
In 1961 Jim graduated from National Electronics Institute in Denver while working for Mountain States Telephone Company. Jim worked for Martin Marietta in 1962 and during that time he attended CU/Denver. While at Martin Marietta Jim worked on missiles.
He purchased his own business in 1963; he owned a Texaco station in Fort Collins and at one point he owned two stations.
November 26, 1966 Jim and Sharon Kaye Manning married and lived in Fort Collins. In June 1967 Jim entered the Army Reserves and spent six months training at Fort Bragg North Carolina and Fort Lee Virginia. He was in the reserves for six years.
Jim purchased a Snap-On franchise in 1968 and he and Kaye moved to Greeley. In 1973 Jim became a manager with Snap-On and they moved to Broomfield, Colorado.
They moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1974 and Jim continued to be a manager with Snap-On.
Kaye and Jim returned to Greeley in 1980 and once again Jim purchased his own business — a Snap-On franchise. Jim retired from Snap-On in 2013 after 45 years with the company.
When Jim was a young boy, he and his father and brother liked hunting and fishing. Jim enjoyed car racing, water and snow skiing, coin collecting and growing roses. Three of Jim's favorite trips were two to Canada with his brother Ron and one with Kaye to Nassau. The trip that made the deepest impression was a trip to Washington DC Arlington Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown. He and Kaye also liked New England very much. They returned to N.M. a few times to visit. They enjoyed visiting Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron Specht, and sister Marlene M. Hardy.
Jim is survived by his wife Sharon Kaye, children Stephanie Marie Twining and John Allen Specht (Roxanne) and grandchildren Victoria Marie Twining and Corrisa Ann Twining.
A private graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Ft. Collins.
