Listen to Obituary
James (Jay) Maurice Rose

Born June 22, 1956 Richmond, VA-Died at home in Fort Collins, CO February 19, 2023

Jay is survived by his wife of 37 years Jackie Rose, daughter Jennifer Rose Nordone (Vincent Nordone) and son Garrett Rose (Bethany Rose and baby Marigold on her way). Furry friends include Boo, Bee, Willy, Boots and Pumpkin who habitually invaded Jay's space, knocked things over, sat on his chair and kept him company.

Jay was born in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Florida. The saying "men are from Mars" is true in this case as Jay graduated from Mars High School in Mars, PA. He went to college at George Mason University pursuing a chemistry degree before deciding on a change of scenery. In 1977, he moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. For several years, he backpacked, fished and enjoyed the outdoors for weeks at a time with his cousins Dave and Andy.

In 1983, Jay took a part time position at the local drive-in movie theater as Concession Manager where he met Jackie, who was already there slinging popcorn. In no time, she was making hamburgers 'to order' for him before shift start. That fall, at the age of 27 Jay moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to attend Colorado State University as a Civil Engineering student. Jackie followed later on that year and in December 1985, they were married.

Jay graduated from Colorado State University in May of 1990 and they moved to Burbank California after accepting a job with the City of Los Angeles. While only in Southern California for 5 years, there were many interesting experiences, food to be eaten and fun to be had. Jennifer and Garrett were both born in Burbank and in late spring 1995, the family moved back to Fort Collins.

Jay was hired by the City of Fort Collins Utilities Department in June 1996 and retired January 2021. He oversaw many Stormwater Utility as Project Manager during his tenure with the municipality.

Survivors other than Jackie, Jennifer and Garrett are vast--his family includes Laurel Rose and Robin Rose/Trauernicht (sisters); Nancy J Rose who embraced Jay as a son from an early age and was in contact with him up to the end; his brothers and sisters between Don (father) and Nancy-Kristine E Allen, Robert C Rose, Margaret J Rose, Stephen L Rose, Elizabeth S Rose-Gould and spouses. Nola Anita Kelley (Jackies' mother) and Andrea Sallee Lehm (Jackies' sister). He also leaves behind cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. His father Donald Rose and mother Virginia Rose/Lofgren passed prior as well as Ernest/Peter Lofgren. Although his family was blended, his memories were fond.

In the days prior to passing, he was planning a visit back east in the summer to see family, enjoying pictures sent from a trip Jackie was on and awaiting the birth of his first grandchild Marigold. His final days were full of happy thoughts.

Cremation is planned with scattering at a later date.
