On December 20, 2010, God called another angel home, James Roderick "Rod" Smith passed away at Poudre Valley Hospital. Rod was born to James Cherry and Lettie Smith on July 24, 1933 in Greenville, South Carolina. Rod first attended schools in South Carolina before venturing to Colorado, where he met and married Jean Churchill. He served with the United States Army from 1954 � 1956 and upon completion, Rod returned to study business at Colorado State University. Rod was a successful entrepreneur in the furniture and auto business, as well as many other business ventures. He married his present wife, Connie Smith on December 29th. This would have marked their 34th anniversary. Rod drew great enjoyment from owning his farm in Arkansas. He also took great pleasure in seeing his youngest son, Tyler, graduate from law school. Survivors include his wife, Connie Smith of Fort Collins; two sons, Tyler Smith of Dallas, Texas and Jim Smith Bettina of Fort Collins; two daughters, Jenifer Davis Brian and Renee Mertens Alan both of Fort Collins. Rod has eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of Rod's life will be held Saturday, January 15, 20111 at 1:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
