James (Jim) Curtis Packard, 76, of Fort Collins, CO died on Thursday, May 23 at home. He was born on February 18, 1948 and grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey. His parents were George and Jean (Sammis) Packard. He has two younger sisters, Marilyn (Packard) Cameron and Leslie (Packard) Stanici. He graduated from Susquehanna University, Pennsylvania in 1970 with a BS in Accounting. He was a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity at Susquehanna. Upon graduation, he was hired by Price, Waterhouse in New York City. In 1975 he moved to Manhattan Beach, California where he worked in the accounting department for Mattel and met his first wife, Cindy Stokes. In 1980, they founded James C Packard and Associates, an independent accounting firm that specialized in small to midsized companies, providing accounting, tax and payroll services. Upon the dissolution of his first marriage, friends introduced him to Judy Cuthbertson, a Presbyterian minister. Jim and Judy married May 1, 2004 and spent twenty wonderful years together. In 2013, Jim retired, sold his business and he and Judy moved to Fort Collins to be near her family, and to enjoy the Front Range life. In 2022 he was diagnosed with the ALS that eventually took his life.
Jim was a volunteer his entire life and usually ended up as treasurer, serving as the "Secretary/Treasurer for Life" for the Manhattan Beach Kiwanis Club from 1985 to 2013, and as board member and Treasurer for the Wellness Community-South Bay Cities. He joined the Eyeopeners Kiwanis Club of Fort Collins and served a term as president. He was awarded the Lusche Fellowship by his club in honor of his work. He was a board member and volunteer treasurer of the Larimer Chorale from 2015 to 2022. He was a Presbyterian elder, deacon and an active member of St Marks Presbyterian Church in Lomita, CA and LaPorte Presbyterian Church in Laporte, CO.
Jim Packard loved music, tennis, golf, hiking, travel, community service, church and cooking but most especially spending time with friends.
He is survived by his wife, his sisters and two bad cats.
A celebration of his life will be Friday, May 31, at 11.00 at LaPorte Presbyterian Church,
