Listen to Obituary
James Alan Mein took his final checkered flag on Father's Day, June 21, 2015. Jim was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on January 12, 1947. He attended schools there and was in the first graduating class of Poudre High School in 1965. He served six years in the US Navy, completing two tours in Vietnam on the USS Coral Sea. He retired from the City of Fort Collins Light and Power after 31 years of employment. After retirement he drove a school bus for Poudre R-1 and this was definitely his favorite job of all! In 1967 he married Alecia Wunsch; they celebrated 48 years of marriage on March 5. They had LeAnn (Tim Nowak) in 1971 and Randy in 1975. They have six grandchildren: Rachel, Allyson, Natalie and Austyn, Lore and Dakota. Besides his family, his greatest love in life was anything with a motor. He drove a race car for 25 years and was an avid motorcyclist. He was a lifetime member of the Wyoming Auto Racing Club. He and Alecia took many trips on their Goldwing and enjoyed the travels together immensely. Jim lost his life here on earth due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident but his family finds peace knowing he died doing what he loved.

Jim is survived by his immediate family; his parents Harold and Dorothy Mein; sisters, Shirley Bruns and Judy Gilbow; brothers, Bill and Bob Mein; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Schulze and Pat Wunsch; brother-in-law, Garry Wunsch and many nieces, nephews and other friends and family.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and services will be held there on June 25, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will be at Grandview Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Viewing is at Bohlender Funeral Chapter Wednesday 12:00-7:00pm.
