James Allen "Jim" Gefroh, 78, passed away on February 9, 2025, in Severance, Colorado.
Jim was born on May 29, 1946, in Karlsruhe, North Dakota. After completing his early education in Karlsruhe, he pursued his passion for architecture at North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he earned his degree. His career was marked by entrepreneurial spirit and innovation -he established his own architectural firm in Fort Collins, later expanded into contracting, and ultimately contributed to home safety with a patented window well design. Even after retirement, Jim remained active in the workforce, sharing his enthusiasm for hunting while working in the gun department of a local sporting goods store.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim had an adventurous spirit that led him across the globe. A passionate hunter and skilled custom gun maker specializing in black powder rifles, he found great joy in collecting 1872 Single Action Army Colt .45s. His love for big game hunting took him on over 30 trips to Africa alongside his best friend, Kim-an experience that defined much of his adventurous life.
Jim faced life's challenges with unwavering courage and determination. He never allowed obstacles to deter him and met every situation with resilience and grit.
Despite his strong will, he had a gentle and loving heart and always prioritized his family above all else.
He is survived by his son Chad Gefroh; daughter Stefanie Gefroh Ellison and her husband Matt; granddaughters Taylor, Sydney, and Landyn; and grandson Beckett; brothers Ike (Ruth) Gefroh and Ray (Lolita) Gefroh as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Magdalen (Lena) Gefroh.
Jim will be deeply missed by those who knew him. His legacy of strength, kindness, and adventure will live on through the memories shared by family and friends.
