James (Jim) Joseph Dugan passed away November 18, 2018 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado at the age of 70. Jim was born on October 15, 1948 in Denver, CO to John and Elva (Newbold) Dugan. The family moved from Deer Trail, CO to Sterling, CO and then to Greeley CO in 1959.
Jim graduated from Greeley West High School in 1967 and Colorado State University in 1971 where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. The day after graduation, he and Colleen Backlund were married and moved to Rifle, CO to teach. They moved to Boston, MA in 1974 where Jim attended Boston University and received his Master's Degree in Education. The family moved to the Denver area in 1976 where he taught mathematics and coached girls basketball at Sheridan High School. Jim took a position at Texas Instruments in 1979 and they moved to Texas living in both Lubbock, TX and Carrolton, TX. Because of both his father and his father-in-law's ill health, Jim moved the family back to the Fort Collins, CO area in 1993. Jim taught school in the area, worked and attended Colorado State University where he received his PhD in Educational Research on May 1, 2007.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, coaching his 3 boys in their sports, and morning coffee with his closest friends and college buddies.
Jim was a loving husband, son, father, grand-father, father-in-law, brother and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen of Fort Collins, CO, his mother, Elva Dugan of Greeley, CO; sons Joe (Sandra) of Arvada, CO, Tom (Katie) of Fort Collins, CO, and Jeff (Lachelle) of Wellington, CO; grandchildren Aly, Molly, Cooper, Kaelin and Emery; brother Michael (Amy) of Greeley, CO and sister Kathy (Dan) Marten of Aurora, NE; nieces Laura Dugan Sarnicola (Ryan), Miranda Marten Hohm (Ryan), nephews Mick Dugan (Melissa) and Jon Marten (Amy) and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Dugan, Jr. and grandparents, John and Bertha Dugan and Howard and Stella Newbold.
The vigil will be on Sunday, November 25th at 4pm at Bohlender Mortuary, 121 W Olive St. Fort Collins, CO and funeral services will be on Monday, November 26th at 9:30am at St Joseph Catholic Church, 300 W Mountain Ave., Fort Collins. CO.
