J.M. "Mike" Dixon
1947-2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of James Michael "Mike" Dixon. Mike, aged 77, passed on Thursday, February 15th, 2024, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Mike was born January 16th, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Marion Dixon. He was the eldest of four children. He graduated from high school in Memphis, Tennessee, but his favorite childhood years were spent in Port Gibson, Mississippi.
Mike married Evelyn Harris in 1980 and three children were born from this union. He professed his life to Christ as a young adult and then ensured that his family was raised in the faith. In 1985 Mike moved his family from Memphis, Tennessee to build a small farm in Cloverport, Tennessee, and was a faithful member of Cloverport Baptist Church until moving to Laramie, Wyoming in 2022. In Laramie, he joined Trinity Baptist Church.
Mike retired from the US Postal Service at age 55, after working as a letter carrier in Memphis for 37 years. He loved being outdoors, from caring for and running his "Pick-Your-Own" blueberry patch for over twenty years to hunting and fishing every chance he had, and was known to joke that he didn't know how he ever had time to go to work. Anyone who met Mike recognized quickly that he loved to joke, with a particular affinity for puns and word games.
Mike is survived by his wife of almost 44 years, Evelyn Harris Dixon of Laramie, Wyoming; children Rebekah Vandiver (Stephen) of Laramie, Wyoming, and Robert Dixon (Leona) of Harker Heights, Texas; siblings Emily Fose, Shirley Brown (Doug), and Melissa LeVine (Harry); six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marion Dixon, and son, Jim Dixon.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Laramie, Wyoming, on Saturday, June 29th, 2024.
