James (Jim) R. Dages, 62, of Erie, Colorado (formerly of Lafayette) passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016 during a motorcycle trip in northern Colorado.
Jim was born September 19, 1953 in Canton, Ohio to Robert and Anne (Cunin) Dages. He grew up in Akron, Ohio, graduated from St. Vincent High School, and obtained a degree in Music Education from the University of Akron. In 1978, he married Roberta James of Munroe Falls, Ohio and in 1980 they moved to Boulder County, Colorado.
Jim's passion for music, helping others and his personal relationship with Jesus Christ were prevalent in his character. Throughout his life he played (and sang) in dozens of music groups spanning rock and jazz bands, choirs and worship teams, orchestras and brass quintets. From 1995-2007, he and Roberta used their combined strengths to open and operate Lafayette Music. There, Jim was able to cultivate his excitement for teaching trumpet lessons, while at the same time supporting the need for musical instruments and accessories to Boulder Valley School District students. His love of helping others carried over into using his carpentry skills to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity or simply taking someone to lunch to encourage them during life's challenges. You could regularly find Jim driving his beloved red Miata to a gig, riding his bicycle around the Front Range or riding a tandem bike with Roberta. His impact on those around him, his infectious laugh, and his groan-worthy puns will be thought of regularly and fondly.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; his son, Josh Dages (Lindsay) of Brooklyn, NY; his daughter, Alina Gullette (Bryan) of Stamford, CT; his grandchildren, Evaleigh and Asher Gullette; and extended family Scott, Nicole, Izsabella and Gabriella Mendez. He is also survived by his sister and brothers, Jean Dages-Wilkerson, Don Dages, Dave Dages, John Dages, Paul Dages, and many more dearly loved family members.
Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, supportive father, tender-hearted and goofy grandpa (Gopper), loyal brother and friend, dedicated educator and gifted musician.
He will be missed tremendously.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Calvary Bible Church, 3245 Kalmia Ave, Boulder, CO 80301.
In lieu of flowers, Jim's family has asked that a donation be made to the National Stroke Association ( www.stroke.org ).
