James Patrick Callan, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of 68, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Born on January 21, 1957, in Denver, Colorado, to Thomas R. and Patricia B. Callan. Jim was a proud third-generation Denverite who loved watching his hometown champion Broncos, Nuggets, Avs and someday Rockies…he was also a proud CSU Ram fan.

Jim's early life was marked by a commitment to education and excellence. He was especially good with his hands and enjoyed working around the house and had an incredible love for art, a passion he shared with his mom. Jim was also a car guy from his first car being a bright red MGB, to a TranAm, to a Porsche 935 turbo cabriolet (very fast!).

Jim attended Colorado State University, where he earned a degree in business finance and was an active member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. His collegiate years were filled with friendships and experiences that would shape the rest of his life.

After completing his education, Jim embarked on a remarkable 38-year career with Lockheed Martin Aerospace, where his contributions to the space and national defense industry were invaluable. Upon retiring in 2018, he made the heartfelt decision to relocate to Fort Collins to be closer to his brother Rick and sister Carrie Peterson, who, along with her life-partner Eric Lake, kept the family bond strong.

Jim's passion for life was evident in everything he did. He was a social butterfly, thriving in the company of friends and family. Known for his love of Modelo, Guinness, Old Aggie (actually any cold beer) and fine tequila, he especially enjoyed playing high-limit slots in Lake Tahoe with his close friend Mike. Those who knew Jim will remember his infectious smile and laugh, vibrant spirit, and the joy he brought to social gatherings.

He is survived by his beloved daughter Carly and her husband Nolan, who were a source of immense pride and love for Jim. He will also be dearly missed by his sister Carrie and brother Rick, each of whom carries a piece of his legacy in their hearts.

Throughout his life, Jim faced challenges with courage and grace, most notably during his brave battle with cancer. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate care provided by Drs. Joshua Petit, Diana Medgyesy, Lakshmi Kolandra, Ian Wood, Jason Spicher and all the dedicated nurses and team members at UCHealth's Poudre Valley Hospital and the Harmony Cancer Center. Their support, care and kindness brought comfort to Jim and his loved ones during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his name to the UCHealth Northern Colorado Foundation, a cause that Jim would have wholeheartedly supported. Donations can be made by calling 970-237-7400 or emailing noco-foundation@uchealth.org .

As we remember James Patrick Callan, let us celebrate a life well-lived — a life filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. May his spirit continue to inspire all who knew him to embrace each day with joy and kindness. Rest in peace, dear Jim; you will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
