James Edward Abromeit, 65, of Fort Collins, passed away Dec. 17, 2006, at Poudre Valley Hospital. Jim was born May 30, 1941, in Denver, to Edward and Mary Abromeit. He grew up across from Sloan's Lake; the oldest of seven children. Jim served in the Navy from 1959 to 1965 which began a lifelong love of international living and travel. Upon his return from the Navy, Jim started a family and worked with IBM in Boulder. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the trailer in Granby, fishing and telling "fish tales." These tall tales became even more grandiose with his grandchildren, including troll hunts on the golf course. Jim's career with IBM for almost 30 years allowed him the opportunity to combine his love of travel and beautiful art. He lived in France for many years while working for IBM where he developed a taste for fine wine and the French language. While on business in Mississippi he met Lynda Becton. They were married on Nov. 24, 1988, in Butler, Ala. Jim and Lynda moved to Indonesia for nine years where together they collected art, antiques, and developed a passion for golf. It was here he retired from IBM in 1991. For the past nine years, Jim resided in Fort Collins and worked as a director and senior consultant with Deloitte Consulting. Here many friendships were created on and off the golf courses at Ptarmagin and the Fort Collins Country Club. He had a reputation among family and friends for his sarcasm, quick retort, and good jokes. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by all. Surviving Jim are his wife, Lynda Abromeit of Fort Collins; a son, Derrick Abromeit of Lawrence, Kan.; a daughter, Candice Falgout of Littleton; three stepdaughters, Kelly Corey of Meridian, Miss., Erin Myers of Littleton, and Shannon Crowe of Meridian, Miss.; three brothers, Lawrence Abromeit of Lakewood, Patrick and Michael Abromeit both of Denver; two sisters, Frances Chavez of Mesa, Ariz., and Margaret Mary Nakayama of Denver; nine grandchildren, Rob, Jim, and Rebecca Corey, Lily and Elliott Abromeit, Elizabeth and Sarah Falgout, Sophia and Christopher Crowe. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bernard. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, Fort Collins. A graveside service with military honors will follow, Tuesday, 1: p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, staging area C. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W.
