Jacquelyn (Jacquie) Merck passed away peacefully on December 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.at the age of 84.
Jacquie was born August 8, 1934 in Yale, South Dakota to Siegfried and Henrietta Maass. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, John; four brothers and sisters, Larry Maass (Linda) of Lakewood, CO, Jeanine Stahl (JR) of Arvada, CO; Gary Maass (Cathy) of Casper, WY, Kathy Robinson of Bismarck, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from high school, Jacquie moved to Rapid City, SD and worked at the House of Pizza, where she met her husband, John. John and Jacquie were married October 13, 1962. They were married for 56 years. For a few years they owned and operated a pizza restaurant in Aberdeen, SD with two other partners. They then moved to Denver, CO and eventually Fort Collins where they established their home. John and Jacquie owned and operated a successful business in Fort Collins (Poudre Valley Appliance) with a partner for 10 years and by themselves for the next 13 years. After selling the business, Jacquie continued to work for the new owners for many years until her health began failing. She was a saleswoman extraordinaire.
Jacquie loved to attend the Rockies Spring training games and followed them and the Broncos closely. It was always fun talking sports with Jacquie. She also enjoyed traveling to Blackhawk and amazed everyone with her luck with the one-armed bandits.
Jacquie was a very kind and caring person. John and Jacquie opened their home to many nieces and nephews over the years. Jacquie's remarkable spirit was ever present in her struggle with cancer. Her concerns were always about the welfare of others. She was loved by many and will be very much missed.
Memorial Mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 300 W. Mountain Ave. on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at a later date.
