Jacob Robert Hehn was born March 9, 1924 in Dickinson, North Dakota to Jacob Hehn and Juliana Isling Hehn. He graduated from Dickinson High School in Dickinson, North Dakota and attended the University of Minnesota, the University of California - Berkley, Dickinson State University, Montana State University, and Shrivenham University in Great Britain earning the Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Economics. In World War II he served in the 11th Armored Division, Third Army, in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria. The 11th Armored Division was involved in both the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the Mauthausen Concentration Camp. Hehn held various administrative positions at Dickinson State University and Montana State University and served as Vice-President for Budgets and Planning at Colorado State University, where he was also treasurer of the governing board for Colorado State University, Fort Lewis College, the University of Southern Colorado, the Colorado State University Experiment Station, the Cooperative Extension Service and the Colorado State Forest Service. He was also a member of the graduate faculty in the Department of Economics. Hehn was active in music, being the bassist of symphony orchestras in Billings, Montana, Bozeman, Montana, Fort Collins, Colorado, and Shrivenham, Great Britain. He played in numerous bands and orchestras over 71 years and traveled extensively in this pursuit in Europe, Great Britain, and the western United States. In his retirement he continued with his music activities and enjoyed raising fruit in climates and at altitudes where it couldn't be done. Hehn was married to Josephine Mariella Nadolski on January 4, 1948. She lives in Fort Collins. He assisted in raising six children successful to maturity, which he always considered his major accomplishment. He was a member of St Joseph's Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Hehn; his parents, one sister, and five brothers. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; three daughters, Bonnie Robert Miller of Loveland, Marla Jim Liggett of Fort Collins, and Roberta Dave Corken of Papillion, Nebraska; two sons, Barry of LaPorte, and Ted of Boulder, Colorado; three grandsons, Aaron, Adam, David and two great grandsons, Aidan and Adam. A family graveside service will be held on November 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, Colorado.
