J. Wayne Scarbrough, Sr., 89, of Fort Collins, passed away peacefully February 10, 2013 surrounded by his family in a local nursing home. Wayne was born June 22, 1923 in Miami, Oklahoma to Anthony and Thelma Scarbrough. He played football and ran track for North Texas State while majoring in Industrial Arts. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and participated in every major battle in the Pacific. Wayne married Marlene Wilhoit on May 27, 1950, in Archer City, Texas. He worked for Halliburton in the oil fields for 12 years. He helped fight two oil well fires with Red Adair. Wayne then worked for Allstate Insurance as a claims adjuster for 25 years. Wayne and Marlene moved to Estes Park, Colorado in 1987. They moved to Loveland in 2005. He enjoyed observing wildlife and nature, fishing, gardening, barbequing and arrowhead hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking with his own design of bird houses. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his children, J. Wayne "Bud" Scarbrough Lois of Livermore, Colorado and Mary Rodriguez Roland of Loveland; sisters, Toni Trousdale of Norman, Oklahoma and Betty Gary of Wichita Falls, Texas; two grandchildren, Alice Marler Jim and Brian Scarbrough Julie; two great-grandchildren, Daniel Scarbrough and Kaitlin Marler. Preceding Wayne in death are his parents, beloved wife Marlene, and son David. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
