The Story of My Life

I was born May 18, 1925 in Sterling, CO to Calvin and Gertie (Perdue) Brown. I am the youngest of six children.

We lived in the Sterling area until I was 5 years old. We then moved to Fort Collins to a farm south of town where I attended Trilby Country School. Later we moved into town and I attended Washington Elementary School until the later part of the seventh grade. We moved to a farm four miles out of Ault, CO. I spent the balance of my school years at the Ault school system, graduating from high school May 1, 1942.

Immediately after graduation I went to Denver to live with my oldest sister. I worked a short time at a Denver laundry, but had the opportunity to be hired by Mountain Bell Telephone Co.

When I was 18, I married Arthur Snow; but that too only lasted a short time, and I moved to Greeley, CO and continued to work for the Mountain Bell Telephone Co.

When I was 21, I married Lawrence Kimber in 1946, and we continued to live in Greeley. In 1949 we moved to Sterling where Lawrence had his own business. I was able to transfer to the Mountain Bell Telephone Co. in Sterling. We spent five years in Sterling, before moving back to Greeley, where we lived until 1963.

In 1963 we moved first to Red Feather Lakes and then back to Fort Collins. I worked three years at Poudre Valley Hospital. After the three years I went to work for Poudre Valley Rural Electric. I worked the balance of my working years at Poudre Valley Rural Electric. I retired in 1981. Lawrence was already retired.

We spent many months traveling the USA and were able to see all 50 states. We spent 17 winters (6 months) in California; Desert Hot Springs; and summers in Fort Collins. In 2007 we sold our place in Desert Hot Springs, California, as Lawrence's health was failing, and then lived full time in Fort Collins.

On March 4, 2009, Lawrence passed away, at age 94. We were married 62 ½ wonderful years. Lawrence was the love of my life and my best friend.

On September 29, 2012, I married Dale White, he survives me. My two brothers, Clarence and Edgar preceded me. My three sisters, Hazel, Aletha, and Eda also preceded me. I am survived by many nieces and nephews and many friends.
