Ilene Shields

Ilene Exeva Shields went peacefully into the arms of her savior on Dec. 19, 2005. Ilene was born and raised in Lindsay, Okla. She was born on Dec. 9, 1920, to Daniel and Ina Street. Ilene graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in home economics. She met and married Robert W. Shields in Unionville, Mo., while working as a home extension agent there. Ilene and Bob moved to Fort Collins in 1955 where they raised three daughters, Karen, Donna, and Robbin. Ilene had a career as a social worker/supervisor for Larimer County Social Services. She served elderly people in the community. For many years she was a member of First Christian Church where she served as youth sponsor and deaconess. In 1983 Ilene became a charter member of Christ Fellowship Church. She served as a deaconess and treasurer and was a loyal church member until her death. She will be remembered for her listening ear, southern hospitality and gift of service. Her greatest pleasures were reading and entertaining friends and family. We could always catch grandma eating Snickers Candy Bars, drinking Coke and munching on ice. She was a delight and was dearly loved. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Ilene is survived by three daughters, Karen Blanco and her husband, Sam, Donna Davis and her husband, Ed, all of Ft. Collins, and Robbin Wangaard and her husband, David, of Shelton, Conn.; 11 grandchildren, Denise Blanco Perich and her husband, Steve, Jason Blanco and Matthew Blanco, Jeremy Davis, and his wife, Jill, Grant Davis and Amy Davis, Kinsey Wangaard Towle, and her husband, Andrew, Elias Wangaard, Elliott Wangaard, Hector Alicea, Ezequiel Wangaard; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Paige, and Mason Perich; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Lenora Wilson and husband Kay, and a sister-in-law, Wanda Street. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, Daniel and Ina Street, brother, D.R. Street, Jr., and sister, Geneva Bradley. A funeral will celebrate her life among us for 85 years at 7 p.m. Monday at Christ Fellowship Church. A private entombment will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Ed Davis will officiate at the services.
