Ian James Taggart, formerly of Fort Collins, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, in La Veta, where he has resided with his family since 2004. Ian, 19, was a senior at La Veta High School, where he participated in wrestling, basketball, 4-H and FFA. Ian worked as an electrician's apprentice during the summer. Ian was an Eagle Scout and organized donations of school and hygiene supplies for the students at Irish Elementary School in Fort Collins for his Eagle Scout project. Ian was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attending the Walsenburg branch. He loved working with children, both at church and at his school, and freely gave of himself to all in need. He had planned to serve a mission for his church, leaving in the fall with his sister. Ian is survived by his parents, Craig and Christal Taggart; and brothers, and sisters, Ryan, Austin, Logan and Keeley of La Veta; his sister Ashley, of Colorado Springs; and brother, Mason; sister-in-law, Stacey; and nephew, Andrew, of Fort Collins. Ian's maternal grandparents, Enoch and Elizabeth Mead, reside in Fort Collins; his paternal grandparents, Ted and Barbara Taggart live in Mesa, Ariz. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1400 Lynwood Drive, in Fort Collins.
