Howard Dwayne Petersen

Howard Dwayne Petersen, 95, of Wellington, CO passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026. Iowa was where he was born, raised and married the love of his life, Esta. He was a supportive and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survived by his children; Ricci Petersen (Sheila Brewbaker), Judi Kapperman (Dean), Sandi Zitek (Kent), grandchildren; Richard Bailey, Lisa Mai (Travis), Camber Zitek, Blair Petersen-Silverberg (Shawn), Charity Caryl, Deana Menard, Jay Thompson, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Esta (Granny), parents Jorgen and Daisy, two brothers Bobby and Lloyd, two sisters Shirley and Phyllis, and grandson Taylor Petersen.

Howard served in the US Marine Corp from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. Most people knew Howard as "Gramps". You could always have a good laugh with him at coffee in the mornings or afternoon happy hour snacks. Growing up you had to learn to run gates for Gramps and then you could graduate to have a license to run the wheel barrel, once you master the wheel barrel he would throw you in the tractor seat.

Family gatherings at Gramps and Granny's meant the world to him, as he loved spending time with the family.
