Howard Mosman

Howard R. Mosman, 85, of Fort Collins, passed away Monday after several years of failing health. Howard was born Jan. 12, 1920, on a farm in Corning, Iowa. He was one of six children born to Ted and Katie Mosman. Howard came to his countryGÇÖs aid in World War II, serving with the U.S. ArmyGÇÖs 3rd Amphibian Engineer Brigade in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon returning home, he married Marjorie Jean Penwell of Villisca, Iowa, on Nov. 21, 1945. Howard worked a number of different jobs over the years GÇö including on a fruit orchard in Wenatchee, Wash., and on a farm in Prescott, Iowa GÇö but the couple was always together. Howard spent the bulk of his career in Creston, Iowa, working with a farmers co-op until 1972. Later that year, the Mosmans moved to Fort Collins. Howard worked locally at Ranch-Way Feed Mills for roughly a decade before retiring due to chronic knee problems. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and the mountains GÇö especially autumn drives with his wife to see the aspen turn. The Mosmans are longtime members of Our SaviourGÇÖs Lutheran Church. Howard loved Fort Collins, and he loved his family. Late in life, chronic joint problems stole his mobility. Dementia eroded his mind. But he remained quick with a smile, especially for those bearing cookies, chocolates and other treats. His sweet tooth remained right to the end. Howard will be missed. His is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie; two daughters, Vicki Benson and her husband, Wayne, of Denver, and Linda Garrity and her husband, Pat, of Denver; a brother, Harold Mosman, and his wife, Norma, of Corning; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our SaviourGÇÖs Lutheran Church, 2000 S. Lemay Ave. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery, 1900 W. Mountain Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our SaviourGÇÖs Lutheran Church or the AlzheimerGÇÖs Association, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W.
