Howard was a Colorado native, born in Galeton. He moved as a child to Washington with his family, but returned to Creede as a teenager and lived with a special aunt and uncle who he considered his second family. He considered his uncle a second father and felt so fortunate to have them in his life. He was a veteran of World War II, being wounded on Omaha Beach, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, and helped liberate German concentration camps. Howard was a rancher and sportsman at heart, breaking wild horses while working on his uncle's ranch. He was an avid deer and elk hunter and liked nothing better than being in the mountains. Howard spent 10 years on the Colorado State Patrol, a job he loved above all others. He spent 20 more years working for Colorado State University in the accounting field and in the engineering research center, accounting department. Howard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Loretta, four children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Military honors will be performed immediately following the service by the All Fort Collins Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.bohlenderfuneralchapel.com
