Howard William "Bill" Jenkins fell asleep in Jesus on February 4, 2010 at 6:51 p.m. in his home in Windsor, Colorado. Bill graduated from high school in Jefferson City, Missouri in 1943, and was inducted into the United States Navy, where he served as a Medical Corpsman. In that capacity, Bill was transferred to the K-3-1 Battalion of the United States Marine Corp, and served with them at the invasions of both Peleliu and Okinawa Islands. He subsequently received the Purple Heart, and was awarded the Silver Star for his service to our country. In 1948, Bill graduated from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and, in August of 1950, married Joan C. Sommers , who had graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, and William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. Mr. Jenkins retired after 34 years with Shell Oil Company. Bill and Joan's children include H.W. Jenkins III deceased, Thomas S. Jenkins, DVM, and Amelia Jenkins Walsh, MFT. Beloved grandchildren include Howard William Jenkins IV, Katie Jenkins Hill, Daniel Samis Jenkins, Ensign J. C. Walsh, USN, Justin Thomas Walsh, and Rachel Elizabeth Walsh. Their 2 great-grandchildren are Anna Leigh Hill and Judah Thomas Hill. A Memorial Service with full Military Honors will be held for Bill on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 328 Walnut St, Windsor.
