Howard Frederick Eichling, 73, passed away on March 1, 2016 in Longmont, CO. Howard was born April 10, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas, where he lived most of his life. He moved to Colorado in 2005 and lived in Fort Collins, Laporte, and most recently, Longmont.

Howard graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio. He was in the Air Force Reserve for six years serving as an airframe repairman from 1964 to 1970. He later spent many years working in retail for Kmart and Home Depot. Some of his interests and favorite hobbies included antique collecting, auto mechanics, and woodworking, among others. In many ways, he followed in the footsteps of his father. Upon moving to Colorado, Howard became an avid explorer of ghost towns and follower of the Galloping Goose of Rio Grande Southern. He remained a long-distance fan of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar "Ike" Higbee Eichling and Lorna Berry Eichling, as well as his favorite dog and travel companion, Gordy.

He is survived by his oldest daughter, Heather Poudre Eichling along with her husband, Santiago Garcia and son, Luca Flint Eichling Garcia. He is also survived by his youngest daughter, Harvest Lynn Eichling and former wife of 30 years, Hortencia Ramirez Eichling.

In Colorado, Howard is survived by his cousin, Dorothy "Dotti" Orazem, her husband, Ray Orazem and their children, Gretchen and Warren. Howard's surviving pets, Rosco (dog) and Greta (cat) will be lovingly cared for by the families of Gretchen and Warren.

Howard will live on in the ghost town of Caribou, Colorado.
