Howard Glenn Dixon passed away at his home in Bellvue, Colorado on June 1, 2023, at the age of 97. Howard was born January 19, 1926, on the family farm in Drennan Colorado to parents Graydon and Grace Dixon.
Howard attended school in the Drennan community and was a stellar athlete on the school sports teams. Particularly in baseball, where many thought he should have become a pro player because of his powerful arm. After high school, Howard joined the Navy, to serve his country and to see the world. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Howard married Hazel Eileen Enoch on April 4, 1948, in Colorado Springs. They both grew up in the Drennan community and attended Drennan school together. Howard and Hazel were married for 67 years before Hazel passed away in 2015. Together they had 5 children. Diana Kay (Kasinger), Kathreen Yvonne (Gallegos), Connie Jean (Maas), Richard Duane Dixon, and Debbie Renee Dixon.
Howard spent several years in the Drennan community doing farming, ranching, and dairy farming. He also worked construction, helping build the Airforce Academy. Howard was an avid hunter, spending every hunting season chasing elk and deer around the mountains.
In 1960, Howard moved to the Laramie River Valley in Larimer County Colorado, where he was foreman for the Rainbow River Ranch for 17 years. In 1977 Howard and Hazel moved to Bellvue, Colorado where they spent the remainder of their lives. After moving to Bellvue, Howard worked as a security guard for Woodward Governor company in Fort Collins for 15 years before retiring in 1992. After retiring, Howard enjoyed many years of golfing, going out on the golf course a couple of times a week until he was 95 years old.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert J. Dixon and Donald J. Dixon, and sisters Rose M. Wetendorf and Doris B. Coleman. He is survived by sister Drusilla R. Brewer of Drennan.
Howard was grandfather to 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
A short memorial service with refreshments will be held Saturday June 17, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the American Legion George Beach Post 4, 2124 Co Rd 54G, Fort Collins, CO.
