Helen Stovall

Helen Marie Stovall, 94, longtime resident of Fort Collins, died Friday, Aug. 24,2007, at McKee Medical Center Hospice Care Unit. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George C. Stovall. Born in Braham, Minn., to Swedish immigrants John and Christine Bystrom Johnson in 1913, she had three sisters and three brothers, all of whom preceded her in death. After attending Bemidji State Teachers College and graduating from the University of Minnesota, Helen began her teaching career in Pelican Rapids, Minn. After her marriage to George Stovall on Dec. 28, 1944, in Superior, Wisc., they moved to Las Vegas where she continued teaching until their move to Fort Collins in 1948. Helen taught at Cache La Poudre High School in Laporte and later moved to Lincoln Junior High School, where she was head of the English department when she retired. Helen taught school for 27 years and retired in 1976. Helen was a member of Westside Extension Homemakers and St. John's Lutheran Church. She was an avid gardener who loved traveling, bridge and square dancing. Survivors include her two sons, Doug Stovall Arr of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ron Stovall Debbie of Noblesville, Ind.; grandchildren, Cyndi Stovall Chuck of Denver, Amy Kline Bill of Phoenixville, Pa., Matt Stovall of Los Angeles, Calif., Gordon and Greg Stovall, both of Noblesville, and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 305 E. Elizabeth St. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. The Revs. Brian Bestian and Warren Wille will officiate. Contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
