Helen Mary Hinnegan McCartney was born on July 15, 1924 and died on April 16, 2011. She lived most of her life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until moving to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1992. Even while being active duty in the Navy September 1944 to May 1946 she remained in Philadelphia. Helen was employed at the Philadelphia Inquirer for 43 years and retired in 1986. She was a member of the Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia until the time of her death. Helen was married on September 14, 1946 to Miles McCartney. Miles preceded her in death. Helen is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise Kopanicsak Hinnegan; her father, Edward Michael Hinnegan; her husband, Miles; her sister, Marie Theresa Malone; her twin brother, Francis Joseph Hinnegan, and her nephew, Michael Gilman Hinnegan.
She is survived by her dedicated sister-in-law, Ruth Hinnegan Fort Collins, Colorado; nieces, Peggy Allard Beauford, South Carolina, Anne Marie Hinnegan Longmont, Colorado; her nephews Francis Hinnegan Herndon, Virginia, James Hinnegan Alliance, Nebraska, Edward Hinnegan Ft. Collins, Colorado, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Helen resided in the Residence at Oakridge for the past seven years. She was very appreciative of the kind and dedicated support she received from this staff; particularly Kali Goring and Pam Rochlin.
Although in recent years she was not able to attend church, Helen held fast to her faith in God and in her Catholic upbringing. In her memory donations could be made to a breast cancer charity of your choice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
