Helen Rose Garner, 85, of Loveland, died July 13, 2005, at McKee Medical Center. Mrs. Garner was born Feb. 26, 1920, in New Tipton, Kan., to George B. Thummel and Mary Simeon Thummel. Mrs. Garner married Merle K. Smith in 1940 in Oberlin, Kan. She lived in Fort Collins for 39 years and was a homemaker and housekeeper. She enrolled in January 1974 in the Moose Lodge, No. 231. She attained the College of Regents Degree in May 1987 and the Academy of Friendship Degree in May 1997. She married her second husband, Eric A Garner, in July 1982 in Loveland. Mrs. Garner is survived by her two sons, James Smith and his wife, Anita, of Fort Collins, and Terry Smith and his wife, Janet, of Loveland; a daughter, Mary Louise Cole and her husband, Cecil, of Fort Morgan; one brother, Joe Thummel of Salina, Kan.; four sisters, Georgene Kircher of Cheyenne, Wyo., Bertha Simeon of Minden, Neb., Martha Boor of Liberal, Kan., and Anna Schraumer of Snohomish, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, an infant son, a sister and a brother. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Father Don Willette will officiate the service.
