Hedwig Heineman

Hedwig I. Heineman, 93, went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 28, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 18, 1913, in Russellville, Mo. She was the second child of John and Alma nee Goldammer Fischer. On July 11, 1937, Hedwig married Herbert J. Heineman from Sedalia, Mo., in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church located in Russellville, Mo. They moved to Fort Collins in 1941. Hedwig was able to spend most of her time as a homemaker and stay-at-home mom, raising their two children, Don and Nancy. Hedwig enjoyed cooking, quilting and crocheting and created many beautiful pieces for her family. She was a wonderful cook and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren. After Herb's retirement in 1971, the Heinemans spent most of their winters in Truth or Consequences, N.M., where they could enjoy a shared passion for dancing and their music. In August 1999, they moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to family. After Herb's passing in March 2003, Hedwig moved to The Bridge Assisted Living Center in Longmont where she resided until her death. While in Fort Collins, Hedwig was a member of The Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. During her stay in Longmont, she attended the Rocky Mountain Christian Church located in Niwot. Hedwig was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Herbert Heineman; brothers, Herbert and Edgar Fischer; and parents, Alma and John Fischer. She is survived by their son, Don and his wife Sue of Steamboat Springs; their daughter, Nancy Whitney and her husband Charles of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren, Kimberly Womack and her husband Bart, Sherrie Engelken and her husband Dave, Kelli Whitney and her husband Jeff Larkin, Kristie Heineman and Clayton Whitney; and five great-grandchildren; Shawn and Brittany Engelken, Jesse Larkin and Breanna and Madison Womack. Viewing and funeral services will be at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. A brief graveside service is planned at the Roselawn Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Fort Collins Elks Lodge located at 140 E. Oak St. Donations may be made on behalf of Hedwig I. Heineman to The American Heart Association in care of the Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
