Harold Robert Mein passed away peacefully on September 11, 2015. Harold was born of Robert Arthur Mein and Florence Edna (Nicholson) Mein in Springer, New Mexico on November 17, 1926. They moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1937. He served in the US Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class from March 5, 1945 until being honorably discharged on July 14, 1946. Harold married the love of his life, Dorothy Edna Cleveland on February 26, 1949 in Fort Collins, Colorado and had a wonderful marriage of over 66 years. Their children include Jim Mein who preceded him in death in June 2015 (Alecia Mein), Shirley Bruns (Dennis Bruns), Robert Mein (Pat Mein), Bill Mein and Judy Gilbow (Kirk Gilbow). They have five grandchildren: LeAnn Nowak, Randy Mein, Becky Gonzales, Robert Mein, and Bobbi Adams. They have eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

He is survived by his immediate family, brothers Loyd Mein of Loveland, Colorado and Kenneth Mein (Marie Mein) of Bothel, Washington and cousin Betty Kammerzell of Loveland, Colorado as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends and neighbors.

Harold retired from Poudre R1 School District in 1992 where he worked as Supervisor of New Construction and Locksmith for over 19 years. Prior to the school district, he also worked at Markley Motors, Holsinger Drywall, and built custom campers under his own company Rocky Mountain Campers. At age 17, he was on a roller skating team, going to Detroit for the speed skating national championship. He served in Boy Scouts for 27 years. He enjoyed the role of President of Sunset Water District for many years. He was a member of the Heart Center of the Rockies Rat Pack survivors of open heart surgery. He loved woodworking and was a wonderful carpenter building their own mountain cabin and many treasured items for family and friends. He loved having morning coffee with his friends, spending time with family and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, 5 – 7 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel on Thursday, September 17th at 1:00 pm. Interment with military honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pathways Hospice who greatly assisted him and his family in his final days or to the National Stroke Association.
