Gurine Evelyn Gorman, formerly of Vienna, West Virginia, peacefully left this life January 25, 2010, at Eagle's Nest Assisted Living in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her two daughters by her side. After a long journey with Alzheimer's, she has finally been reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Jack; her brothers, her parents, and a host of other friends and relatives that have made the journey before her. Evelyn was born in Kearny, New Jersey on August 4, 1919, to the late Victor E. Henrikson and Gesine Hansen Henrikson. She was a bookkeeper, homemaker, and a Sunday School teacher for many years. Her retirement years were spent in Tom's River, New Jersey, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and most recently, Fort Collins, Colorado. Her greatest pleasure in life was caring for others. She was never idle; she enjoyed painting, she loved sewing, and did the most beautiful hand work. She also enjoyed the outdoors and gardening; her yard was a sight to behold. In her later years, though she no longer gardened, she marveled at the beauty of this earth, especially the trees, whenever she was outside. Evelyn's beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes, and love for all of God's creatures made her a treasure here on earth. She never knew a stranger, she was kind to everyone she met, and will be remembered by all whose lives she touched. She especially loved children and animals. She was a caring wife, Mom, Nana, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her family at Eagle's Nest, Scott, Carrieann, Brittany, and Matthew Williams, and their special staff, brought her so much joy. They made her last years full of laughter and love, which she returned many times over. Her family would like to recognize them as our angels here on earth, our beacon of light during some difficult times, and now our very good friends. Not to be forgotten are Evelyn's very special friends, Els Deininger, Leah Richie, and Nancy Robey, who spent many hours with her, offering their companionship, friendship, and sharing lots of ice cream. Thanks also goes to Pathways Hospice for their help in assisting Evelyn make her final journey. Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Linda Keller of Fort Collins, Colorado and Joanne McKain , of Virginia Beach, Virginia; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, at 4:00 pm, January 28, 2010, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, followed by a wake service at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the Church of the Holy Family in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Interment will be at Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W.
