Grace Fischer Dalby, a long-time resident of Louisville, passed away peacefully on October 25th at the age of 94. Grace Dalby was born on January 18, 1913 to Guy and Grace Fischer in Louisville, Colorado. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Joseph Dalby, in 1936. Grace was an extraordinary woman of great faith and character, and her legacy is one of unending love, generous service, devotion to family, and warm friendships. She will be fondly remembered for her passion to live life to its fullest, her wonderful sense of humor, and a viewpoint that was seldom outdated. Her life, like her amazing skill as a seamstress, was a tapestry woven with excitement, creativity, and the magic of creating a masterpiece from the very simplest of things. During her high school years she won the State Vocal Contest at the Denver Auditorium. Singing for special occasions, being a part of the church choir, and participating in bible study groups gave her great pleasure. She was an early member of the Saturday Study Club which organized and began the first library in Louisville. GraceGÇÖs charm and wit were most evident in her favorite pastimes which included beating the men at shuffleboard and playing cards and games with family and friends. GraceGÇÖs family has its roots in the Louisville area that date back over 100 years. She was proud of the five generations of Fischer contractors who built many of the original buildings that remain legacies of this townGÇÖs heritage to this day, including the State Mercantile building. This building was in the Dalby family for 69 years, first as Carveth Brothers and Dalby, then as Dalby Super market, operated by Grace and Joe. Just as their customers came to rely on the store for lifeGÇÖs necessities, GraceGÇÖs ever expanding circle of friends found a break from the daily grind through her efforts to making sure that the needs of others were always met with a smile and a helping hand. Although she will be dearly missed, her life will continue to shine as a beacon to others as a life well lived. Grace Dalby was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, sisters, Eleanor and Pauline, and brothers, Alvin and Glenn Fischer. Survivors include a son, Gordon Dalby of Golden, a daughter, Joan Yust of Fort Collins, four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A celebration of GraceGÇÖs life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church, 741 Jefferson Ave., Louisville, CO. Donations may be made to Hospice of Larimer County or Meadowlark Assisted Living of Fort Collins, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Ft. Collins, CO 80524. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com.
