Listen to Obituary
September 19, 1924 — February 28, 2013 Gordon Madsen of Fort Collins, Colorado peacefully passed away on February 28, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was 88. A great story teller, Gordon's life began in his beloved twin cities town of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Memorable childhood experiences were created at the Pillsbury Settlement House. At the age of 16 he found his true love and the love of his life Lorraine "Sparky" Ness age 15. Their love and her memory, as well as many letters, sustained him during his valiant service with the Marine Corps in the Pacific Campaign of WWII. After the war, Lorraine accepted Gordon's hand in marriage, and together they walked through life for 67 years. They were blessed in the birth of their loving daughter, Jeannie. After a wonderful career with Standard Oil Company, Gordon and Lorraine retired in Fort Collins Colorado. Quoted by dear friends "he loved his family," as well as "he was the finest individual I knew." Knowing that neither people nor life was perfect, he always had the courage to overcome obstacles and win. He spent many good times at Lindenmeyer Lake and rivers in Montana as a passionate fisherman, and loved to teach his family. Self-taught in many ways, he embraced learning and education. He always wanted to maintain his freedom. We are so proud of him for completing his book "The Story of A Young Marine." He cherished spending time with his family and friends. He was a role model to many. A salute for a life well lived! He leaves his loving wife, Lorraine; daughter, Jeannie Campbell husband, Ian; granddaughters, Laura Campbell and Lisa Gustas husband, Dave; and great grandsons, Reid and Carter Gustas. Gordon will be laid to rest with military honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery on March 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in Staging "B".
