Gloria A. Lucero passed away October 4th 2024 at her Fort Collins home after a long and loving life of 83 years. Known as "Gojo" to her husband and close family, she led a life of joy and faith.
Gloria was the first child of Ruben Lucero and Abelina Torres. She was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on December 30th, 1940. As the oldest child, she helped her mother raise her siblings, Ruby, Adeline, Esmeralda, Ruben Jr., Isabel and Liz. Her brother Ruben Rafael Lucero died as a baby.
Gloria fell in love and married Bernie Lucero on July 2nd, 1960 in Pueblo, Colorado. In the mining town of Minturn, Colorado, they lost their first baby, Stone Lucero. Later moving to Fort Collins, Gloria raised three children, Bernard, Aloyse, and Lawrence. Gloria was involved in many parts of the community, supporting Holy Family church and Irish Elementary. In addition to caring for her children, she helped and supported many other children along the way, including her treasured nieces and nephews, as well as extended family, friends and neighbors.
Gloria opened her home to everyone she met, providing meals and connection to so many over the years. She was known for her breakfasts, and especially her fried potatoes. She never used a recipe, always measuring ingredients by touch, and her cooking was the best on the street. She dedicated her life to caring for the people around her, and her generous spirit made everyone feel included. She never met a stranger who didn't become a friend.
Despite terrible tragedies, including the loss of her first child at birth, and the loss of her daughter to a car accident, Gloria looked for the joy in life and relied on her faith to find her way forward. After the loss of her daughter, Gloria raised her granddaughter Amber in a home of love.
She leaves behind her husband, Bernie; children Bernard (Erin) and Lawrence; grandchildren David, Amber, Meghan, Spencer; great-grandchildren Kynsley, Donovan, Armani, and Sadie; sisters Isabel (Danny), Esmeralda (John), and Liz (Del); nieces and nephews; and a large extended family. She has gone to join her children Aloyse and Stone in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gloria's name can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or Irish Elementary.
There will be a rosary and service celebrating Gloria's life. A rosary will be held Sunday 10/13 at 6 pm at the Bohlender funeral chapel. The service and mass will be held at 10 am on Monday 10/14 at Holy Family Catholic Church.
