Glenn Milton Heider, 84, of Fort Collins died March 1, 2011. He was born October 14, 1926 to Henry and Alta Heider in Carbondale, Kansas. In his early days he was a pole-climber for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. Glenn graduated Valedictorian from Scranton High School in 1944. While still in high school, he leased a service station where rations were issued during World War II. Upon graduation, he was accepted as an Air Cadet into the U.S. Army Air Corp and trained as a pilot, flying B-24 bombers until the end of WW II. Glenn graduated from Washburn University at Topeka, Kansas where he did his graduate works at the Universities of Kansas and Toledo. He married Connie Harrison in 1947 and began his career as a teacher and principal at Scranton and Randolph High Schools before moving to Atchison, Kansas to teach special education programs for both gifted and at-risk students 1958 to 1962. While in Atchison, his service in the community activities was so admired by his peers and followed by his long list of services which include: Member/Methodist Church; Rotary Club; Commander/American Legion's Fleming-Jackson-Seaver Post and 40 & 8 Society; Booth Award/Salvation Army; Board of Governors/St Benedict's College; Director/Atchison Hospital; President/Chamber of Commerce; President/Industrial Development; Board Member/United School District #409; and nominated for "Man of the Year". In 1962 he began a new career as president of Home Savings and Loan of Atchison. He retired in 1983 and moved to Fort Collins where he became Branch Manager for Home Federal Savings. He retired from there in 1986. Glenn married Dianne DeLorme on July 25, 1992 in a garden wedding at their home. Glenn is survived by his wife, Dianne Heider; his children: Cheryl Wally Kletzker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mark Chris Heider of Lawrence, Kansas, Jeff Heider of Effingham, Kansas, Carl Rena Burk of Brighton, Colorado, Corey Joanna Burk of Aurora, Colorado; his 12 grandchildren: Matt Heider of Dallas, Texas, Stephani Bobby Boyd of Lenexa, Kansas, Sara Heider of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tammy Edwin Miranda of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Julie Andrew Ingle of Antioch, Tennessee, Micah Heider of Effingham, Kansas, Kimberly, Lillyan, Isabella Burk and Noah Sharp of Aurora, Colorado, Vander and Beau Burk of Brighton, Colorado; two great grandchildren: David Miranda of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Isabel Ingle of Antioch, Tennessee. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Glenn M. Heider Memorial Fund in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins Colorado 80524. Those who wish may view Mr. Heider on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service with Military Honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
