Listen to Obituary
Glenn Frederick Farring was born October 14, 1935, the first of four children born to Ruth Ellen and George Farring, and graduated to his eternal home on March 13, 2023.

Knowing God and serving God was central in Glenn's life. Raised in a God loving home Glenn was encouraged to memorize many verses, which he quoted often. Psalm 92:1-2 before each dinner became a family ritual that all could chime in on. Serving his Lord was paramount in his life. He was an ordained Deacon, a Bible teacher, and held various roles within the church. He truly personified his faith and everyone that knew him, knew he was a child of Christ.

Family was very important to Glenn and he and Barb would attend as many functions as they could, including sporting events, musicals, recitals, school or church gatherings for his girls as well as his six grandchildren. His booming voice was always heard over the crowd, cheering and encouraging. His inclusive encouragement branched beyond his children and grandchildren to each of their teammates and friends. He was generous not only in heart and spirit, but also in action. He could always lighten the atmosphere with a rhyme or a pun.

Following the passing of his mother in 1947, his father met and remarried Miss Edith Watt. Having difficulty handling four children, the family made the decision to enroll Glenn at Ben Lippen School in Ashville, NC. This is where the family had previously attended various mission conferences. Glenn thrived at Ben Lippen, graduating with honors. Following high school graduation, Glenn and three close friends headed to CA where they did mission work prior to entering Wayland Baptist College in the Fall. In 1957 Glenn graduated from Wayland Baptist University.

During summers, while in college, Glenn worked for the US Forest Service on a Fire Suppression crew. Following college Glenn went to the Northwest and made connections through his Uncle Bob, George's twin brother, to work and explore opportunities for employment. During that summer Glenn attended First Southern Baptist Church in Portland, OR and there he met Barbara Burkett, who had just returned from her first year at Oklahoma Baptist University. It was love at first sight; they courted, played tennis, churned homemade ice cream for youth socials, and enjoyed family time with the Burkett family. That summer he received his letter from Uncle Sam that the US Army wanted to have him with them. Long distance courtship ensued, Barbara returning to OBU. April 1960 Glenn and Barbara married and moved to Ft. Carson, CO for a month prior to Glenn's discharge from the Army. Determined for Barbara to finish her college career, Glenn and Barbara moved to Corvallis, OR where both attended classes. Following Barbara's graduation, Glenn again sought work with the US Forest Service. Initially, Glenn continued with fire-fighting, then moved into data processing. Promotional moves took them to Washington DC, Fort Collins, CO, back to Washington DC and again Fort Collins. Colorado had claimed their hearts. Following retirement from USFS and moving to Littleton, Glenn worked for the Colorado Rockies until his health determined he should really retire.

Glenn is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Barbara, sister Mollie Lilley, daughter Elizabeth Hanson and daughter Patricia Hoyer (Craig). Proud Granddad to Logan O'Neal (Collin), Nathan Hoyer (Cassidi), Ryan Hanson, Brooke Hanson, Warren Hanson, Corey Hoyer and great-grandson Caden. Preceded in death by his parents, George Farring, Ruth Ellen Farring and Edith Farring, his brother Jim Farring (Mary Lou), sister Pearl Farring, twin brothers-in-law Roy (Cheryl) and Gordon (Terry) Burkett, brother-in-law Jeff Lilley and son-in-law Robert Hanson.
