Gladys Ethlyn Lumsden, 95, a longtime resident of Fort Collins, passed on to her Lord, Tuesday, March 7, 2006, in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St. Graveside service at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder. Gladys was born in Wampee, S.C., on July 11, 1910, the daughter of Neil and Elizabeth Suggs. After graduating high school as salutatorian, she taught school for a year and then married Thomas Dozier TD James on Jan. 17, 1936, in Charleston, S.C. They moved to Pueblo in 1944 and Boulder in 1952, where they raised three children, two sons and a daughter. Both of them worked for Dow Chemical at Rocky Flats for many years. In 1978, TD passed away and Gladys moved to Fort Collins where she was a member of Southside Baptist Church. When she was 80, she married Harold Lumsden, who was 90. They had five happy years together until Harold died in 1995. Gladys lived with her son, Tillman, in Longmont for several years where she attended Faith Baptist Church and then moved to Fort Worth to be near her other son, Russell. Gladys will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her tenacity and a bright spirit that endured until her death. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. She is survived by her sons, Tillman and Russell James; her daughter, Julie Bertapelle of Detroit; grandchildren, Phillip Beatty, Timothy Beatty, Nathan Beatty, Ian James, Tanessa James, Kristopher James and Laura Watkins; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
