Gilbert R. Padilla Sr., 75, of Fort Collins, died June 17, 2007, at his residence. Gilbert was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Leon Springs, Texas, to Lupe Padilla and Louisa Rivas Padilla. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Gilbert moved in 1964 from Michigan to the Fort Collins area. He was an auto mechanic and collected coins and toy cars. Survivors include his two sons, Gilbert R. Padilla Jr. of Denver and Jimmy Ray Padilla of Bakersfield, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy Brennan of LaPorte and Mary Lou Garris of Howell, Mich.; three brothers, Joe Padilla of Greeley, Tom Padilla of Brighton, and Inez Padilla of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Alice Padilla of Saginaw, Mich., Ramona Furlo of Concord, Calif., and Ann Stapleton of Saginaw, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding Gilbert in death were his parents; a brother, John; and sister, Mary Lou. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, with military honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard.
