Geraldine "Gerry" Marie "Stephen" Schmidt, 78, of Ft. Collins, died on June 2, 2015 at home, after a long battle with cancer. Gerry was born on March 4, 1938 in Bogue, Kansas to Lyle and Mary Stephen. She married Fred Schmidt on August 29, 1958 in Bogue, Kansas.
She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fort Hays State University in 1962. She taught art education at local schools. After moving to Colorado, she was a secretary for the Departments of Engineering, Forestry, and Chemistry at Colorado State University.
Gerry enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and writing. She was considered to be an excellent cook.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Fred Schmidt; sons, Mark of Denver and Douglas of Loveland; her brother, Leon of Bogue, Kansas; her grandchildren, Nick and Kira; step-grandchildren Steven and Tyler; and close friends, Johnny Hybeck and April Patrick. Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Betty Wertz.
Per Gerry's request, there will be no service and cremation was conducted. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Pathways Hospice for their outstanding services during her last days.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
