George R Mock, local longtime businessman, died June 15, 2010. He was born December 1, 1930 in Denver, Colorado, and later moved to Alamosa, Colorado graduating from Alamosa High School. He attended Colorado A & M now CSU, where he was in ROTC and graduated in 1953 with a degree in Dairy Manufacturing; he promptly entered the US Air Force. While at CSU he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and met his wife of fifty-seven years, Dorothy Payne Mock who survives. Following George's discharge from the Air Force, the Mocks made their home in Julesburg, Colorado, where their two children Marilyn and Don were raised. The Mock family moved to Fort Collins in 1968 and the children graduated from Fort Collins high school. George retired after thirteen years with the United Bank in Fort Collins as Executive Vice-President. He became a securities broker with PaineWebber until retirement. George's many volunteer activities included Fort Collins Planning and Zoning Board, Chamber of Commerce, and Fort Collins Country Club Board. George was a Shriner of York Rite Masonry, President of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins, and a lifetime member of the CSU Alumni Association. George was active with the Long's Peak Council of Boy Scouts, and also enjoyed volunteering with the Fort Collins Welcome Center. George lived a full life enjoying golf, swimming and in recent years liked sitting on the patio and conversing with neighbors and friends as they passed by on the shoreline. He was extremely proud of his family; his wife and their children, Don Mock and his twin daughters, MacKenzie and Madison of San Anselmo, CA; Marilyn Mock Pickering and husband Tom of Estes Park and their sons Matt and Drew of Denver; and George's brother, Noel Hurd of Martinez, CA. A celebration of George's life will be held at the Fort Collins Country Club, 1920 Country Club Road on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 3:00– 6:00 pm. for family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family would welcome donations to Long's Peak Council of the Boy Scouts or the Larimer County Humane Society.
