George Collins, born on June 2, 1942, in Devon, just across the bridge from Stratford, Connecticut, passed away on March 31st, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the second—and perhaps the most rambunctious—child of Catherine Mulcunry and George Collins.
A lifelong scholar and teacher, George earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College and later received both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Yale University. He devoted 48 years to teaching at Colorado State University, where he entertained and challenged generations of students.
George approached life with a spirit of adventure and a love for all that was ephemeral and beautiful—a good sunset, a fleeting bloom, the perfect fillet of salmon. He was a man who found joy in being proudly and fiercely self-sufficient. Above all, George loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sayuri Collins; his sisters Cynthia Collier and Bridie Collins; his brother Billy Collins; his children: Lauren Collins, Eugene Collins, Hiroki Collins, Natasha Collins, Kasumi Collins; niece Catherine Collier Kyrolis; grandnephew Alexander Kyrolis; and grandson Cody Moreng.
He will be very much missed.
