M/SGT Gene R. Kirby went home to be with the Lord Oct. 9, 2008. Gene was born on Sept. 24, 1929, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Helen and Herman Kirby. Gene enlisted in the Army in 1945, spending time in Germany, Austria, Greenland, and Korea. After retirement from the Army in 1969, he then gave 20 years to Colorado State University as Sergeant of Investigations, retiring in 1990. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Luise Kirby; son, Richard Kirby; and three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com.
