Gene Roy Embry was born February 2, 1956, to Emmett (Gene) and Barbara Embry in Hyattsville, Maryland. From an early age, he developed a love for baseball and a spirit of adventure. As a teenager, Gene moved with his family to England, where his father worked with the National Security Agency. He attended London Central High School, his remarkable experiences left a lasting impression and helped shape the person he would become.
While living in England he and friends attended the first outdoor Rolling Stones concert, attended many David Bowie, Ziggy Stardust concerts, and traveled to several European countries.
After returning to the United States, Gene moved to Colorado to study pre-architecture at La Junta Junior College, where he was able to be close to his sister, Gloria Heath and family. After completing his courses, he made Grand Lake, Colorado, his home for several years. Surrounded by the mountains, Gene developed a lifelong connection to the outdoors, embracing a life as an avid cross-country skier and fly fisherman while working as a surveyor in Grand County and an occasional chef.
Eventually Gene settled in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he attended Colorado State University and earned a degree in Construction Engineering. It was there that he met the love of his life, Patty. Together, they built a life in Fort Collins and raised two sons, Christopher and Ryan.
Gene worked as an Estimator and Project Manager for the Corcoran Company and later as an Estimator for Spacecon. He understood and loved the field of construction and the connections he made. Throughout his career, he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues for his integrity, dedication, and unwavering work ethic.
Above all, Gene cherished his role as a father and grandfather. Family was his greatest pride and purpose.
Gene passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife, Patty; his sons, Christopher (Heidi) and Ryan (Katie); and his grandchildren, Madison, Reece, Angus, and soon-to-be-born Felix. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Gene's life will be held 12-4pm, Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Cafe Vino, 1200 S. College Ave.
